5 Great Ways to Teach Your Child Spanish

Spanish is a great language for children to grow up using. If you are equipped with the power of being bilingual, you are already aware of. But for the rest of us, Spanish was one of the harder courses in later life. When we got back, were in Spanish class in high school or college, that we think, "This would be so much easier if I just learned as a child."

We look at some of our friends who speak the language with ease, and we wish we could have only the ability, so we could teach our children and give them an advantage in a world that increasingly speaks English and Spanish. These five methods will help you, your Spanish language skills while teaching your kids!

1. Talk to your kids in Spanish, even if you only have basic knowledge

While you might think, "but I do not speak Spanish!" The key is to use here, what you know. Although only a few sentences or words, use them with your child! Spanish is to learn a challenging language later in life. Although it is much more consistent grammatical rules as English has, we still have a hard time. There are different phonetic sounds like the "rr" Trill or "th", the speakers we hear more comprehensive and easy (for the latter it is more often in Spain). The difficulty some of us have to reproduce that sound comes from the fact that we learned certain syllables like a child.

2. Rent a Spanish-speaking nanny, nannies or maids

Some of our best friends growing up had to speak a housekeeper or babysitter, Spanish, and they tell me now that it was incredibly helpful.

Some domestic workers are still talking with your kids in Spanish, but if you specifically ask, you would be amazed at the enthusiastic response. Everyone likes to speak their own language, but usually keeps teaching it even more!

3. You talk to a Spanish-language cartoon series such as Dora the Explorer

This is quite obvious. Most basic cable have a few Spanish channels, so why not let your child grow up seeing the cartoons instead of the usual? Dora the Explorer is a good transition, because the show is bilingual. Check to find your local ads, which will be played.

4. Teach your children basic words of things around the house in Spanish

Teach your child basic words of the objects and things around the house is a good way to get them to learn Spanish. The best part about it is that you do not even need to know the language! You can make a website or a series of examples we give in the center and teach your children the names of these things, just as you would in English. Here are some simple examples:

Table: La Mesa

Moderation: La Silla

Bed: la cama

Phone: el telefono

Bathrooms: el Bano

PC: la computadora

Dog: El Perro

Cat: Gato

Fish: el pes

These are some basic steps, but there are tons of resources out there to find more words! Or is another good idea, buy a Spanish-English dictionary from Amazon and only for words not looking to know in Spanish.

5. Children read them stories in Spanish

Another good method is to try to get your child to read bedtime stories in Spanish. They learn they can identify simple words through repetition and pick phrasing. Most Spanish children's books, similar to English with a very basic vocabulary.
